Stacked Area Density Explorer

This interface idea was inspired by the baby name voyager. This could be built using a technology like Flash to give a very dense but easily understandable representation of the entire species composition of a site over time.

• Default page displaying all species at a site. Notice the options below it to limit what taxa are shown. Also notice the comments that can be linked to a specific date.
• create groupings. This screenshot shows a hypothetical interface for creating and saving taxon groupings.
• urchin kelp explorer. Here, the taxon grouping created in the last screenshot is displayed using the "density explorer". Note that the grouping appears in the "your groupings" list. The application could remember what grouping the user has created or commonly looks at and make them easily available. This would be in addition to listing all of the public groupings created by other users.
